Tool
Gematria Calculator
Add up the letters of a word. Then see how easy it is to find another word with the same number.
What gematria and isopsephy are
Hebrew and Greek both used letters as numbers, so every word has a value. Some ancient writers play with this on purpose, and the question is always whether a particular number was meant.
The caution
With only a few thousand common words and a few hundred possible totals, plenty of unrelated words share the same value. A match proves little unless you can say in advance which number you were looking for. The calculator shows the value, and the bench's other tools help you measure how often chance does the same thing.
